You Can Lend Your Hands Everywhere
and Every Time
When you watch the television, you
can see that there are many people who are afflicted. Their life was disrupted
by the natural catastrophe. They lost their houses, their schools, their money,
their wealth, and even their family and friends. When you turn on the radio,
you hear news about persecution to a woman. On the street, you see so many
children, beggars, and scavengers suffer from hunger since they have nothing to
eat. They cannot afford for some foods. You feel sorry for that people. You
even think, “What can I do to help them?” This is the fact that humans have
their own sense of social solidarity. Unfortunately, sometimes most of the
humans are confused or even don’t know how to show their social solidarity. But
actually, everyone in the world-doesn’t matter who they are and where they
are-can help other at least through 3 channels.
You can do philanthropy start from
the small part of society, like family and neighborhood. For the initial step,
you can do charitable activity for the people who are down on their luck around
your neighborhood. In order to improve the quality of the philanthropy, you can
ask for help from your family member or from some neighborhood communities,
because those 2 components will help you a lot to collect the salient
informations which are related to the philanthropy. For example, you have a
plan to hold philanthropy to help poor children and scavengers on your
neighborhood. You need informations and many other things for this activity.
And as a social creature, you cannot do it alone. You can ask for help from
some neighborhood communities (Remaja Masjid, Karang Taruna, etc.). They will
make it easier to raise funds and also to hold the charitable activity.
Beside family and neighborhood
communities, schools and work places also act as channel of philanthropy.
Schools and work places are 2 simple channels to help our brothers and sisters.
Commonly, most of schools and work places participate on philanthropy by
raising funds not only from the students, teachers, staff, and workers, but
also from the schools and workplaces itself. As a student, you can donate so
many useful things for our brothers and sisters (the victims of natural
disaster) such as clothes, shoes, books, stationaries, money, etc. through
Interschool Student Organization (OSIS) or through related department.
Another channel is non-government
organizations (NGOs). NGO’s workers and staff mostly work voluntary. It
improves the quality of their social activity and makes their services become
more professional. In Indonesia, the activities of NGO are influenced by
funding agencies as well as internal resources, interests, and expertise of
members. If you are a benevolent person and want to be a volunteer, non-government
organization is a right or an effective channel to express your social
solidarity.
Therefore, everybody can be a
philanthropist everywhere and every time. Because there is not only a way to
lend a hand to people who are down on their luck, but there are so many ways
through various channels. And there is no reason for the humans to state that
they don’t know how to help other.
